What bronze sculpture manufacturers will not tell you about the advantages and disadvantages of lost wax and sand casting. The sand casting method uses clay-bonded sand as the modeling material to produce cast bronze sculptures. Since its application thousands of years ago, most countries in the world, including the United States and Japan, have used the sand casting method to produce copper-cast crafts.

What is lost wax casting?

Lost wax casting is also called investment casting. The lost wax process enables any object that can be modeled in wax to be accurately transformed into metal. The wax pattern is carved from a special sculpture wax to preserve the fine details of the sculpture. Most high-end jewellery made of gold and pound sterling is made of lost wax castings because it produces the highest details. According to the characteristics of the product, we adopt different casting methods, such as the lost wax casting method of plaster mold and the lost wax method casting of silica sol.

What are its shortcomings?

The surface of the shell type has insufficient refractoriness, which is easy to produce sticky sand and rat tail grooves; the water glass shell type is prone to orange peel; the shell type is not strong enough to cause swelling; the shell type surface is not dense, and it is easy to produce burrs; An important piece; in addition, problems with the operation or shell shape will cause sand holes; there is a certain tendency to crack; there is also a defect that is easily overlooked. In investment casting, especially steel castings, a decarburized layer will appear on the surface In severe cases, it can even reach about 1mm, which makes it difficult to quench castings with surface hardness that need to be quenched.

It can be said that the defects of general castings will occur in investment casting, and this requires specific analysis of specific circumstances.
